Chelsea target refuses to rule out future move
Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan has impressed an array of clubs throughout Europe in recent months, and has gone on record admitting a move is possible in the future.
The Belgian international is happy at Roma in his new role, but has been known as a player capable of breaking up play with strong defensive contributions.
However, one of the clubs closely monitoring Nainggolan is Premier League outfit Chelsea. Sources close to Antonio Conte have let it known that the 28-year-old was identified as a transfer target last summer.
Nainggolan’s current contract runs until 2020 and he maintains his focus is firmly on achieving success with the Serie A side.
Speaking ahead of Roma’s Europa League match against Lyon, Nainggolan said: “We have just passed the first half of the season and you are talking to me about the transfer market already?
“I think I am doing well as I have always tried to do. Then this (contract extension) is a thing that we have to review in the future.
“Here I am happy, I like to play for this club, but these are things that we will see later on.”
Nainggolan has seen better fortune in front of goal since being moved into a more advanced midfield position. Already this season he holds his own record of 9 goals in one season, 7 more than his previous best.
It will be a big ask for either club – Roma v Lyon – to progress in the Europa League. We would go as far to say it’s without question tie of the round.
So, whatever happens this summer with Nainggolan, expect Conte to come sniffing at some point. It’s certainly one to watch.
