Chelsea & Swansea plan shock striker swap dealPublished January 09, 2017
Chelsea’s interest in signing Swansea City striker Fernando Llorente on loan could see Michy Batshuayi move the opposite way as part of any prospective deal.
The two clubs are purportedly ready to commence negotiations to take towering Spaniard Llorente to Stamford Bridge until the end of the season, and reports from Italy now suggest that out-of-favour Belgian Batshuayi could be used as a sweetener to get the transfer over the line.
A big-money summer signing from Marseille, Batshuayi’s woes in west London have forced Blues boss Antonio Conte to target the addition of a target man as cover for the impressive Diego Costa. The 23-year-old has struggled to adapt to the English game since the move, starting just four games so far this season, but despite netting in Chelsea’s 4-1 FA Cup win over Peterborough on Sunday afternoon, a temporary loan spell is being readied for the youngster.
And with the Guardian reporting that 31-year-old Swans star Llorente has been lined up as his replacement in a short-term deal, Sky Italia claim that a swap deal involving the duo is a distinct possibility.
Ex-Athletic club striker Llorente- himself a close season arrival to the Premier League- has fared better than his opposite number up to now, netting six goals for the relegation strugglers. His aerial ability would provide a different dimension to the brawn and athleticism of current first-choice Diego Costa, with Conte known to favour using physical centre-forwards- as he did with Graziano Pelle during the European Championship.
Batshuayi, meanwhile, is not deemed to be a total lost cause among Stamford Bridge officials, and a move elsewhere in search of regular game-time could pay dividends as far as his Chelsea career is concerned. With the Blues locked in a tussle for the Premier League title this time around, a reliable option from the bench, such as Llorente, could be necessary to swing the balance in their favour come the end of the campaign.
As it stands, no agreement is in place between the two teams, although talks regarding the two players could take place over the coming weeks.
