Chelsea star ignores link from Spanish giants Barcelona
Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta has committed his future to the club, despite reported interest from Barcelona, per the Daily Star.
The Spaniard joined the Blues from Marseille in 2012, helping them win the Europa League, League Cup and two Premier League titles.
This year’s success was perhaps all the sweeter because Azpilicueta’s role was so important, adapting his game to become part of new manager Antonio Conte’s back three.
He thrived so much that he has attracted admirers, not least from back in his homeland of Spain, but he says he is very happy in West London.
“It’s a compliment that a club like Barca are interested in you,” Azpilicueta told Marca.
“Last year, after a bad season on the collective level, we didn’t have those type of rumours.
“I am very happy here. I feel very valued by the club and I do not think of anything else.”
It remains to be seen who will be in charge at Barcelona next season, with boss Luis Enrique leaving after the Copa Del Rey final next week.
