Chelsea forward Alvaro Morata may have changed his shirt number, but the player himself has no intention of leaving the club this summer.
He explained that the change in shirt number was all down to his wife giving birth on that day of the month, and it’s to honour his new family.
Morata also said that they’re very happy in London, and have no plans to leave, despite claims to the contrary.
It had been thought Chelsea would look to force the player out this summer and land Gonzalo Higuain, yet Higuain has moved to AC Milan on loan and said the only person who wanted him in west London was the new Chelsea boss, Maurizio Sarri.
Morata further noted that the club and the board are backing him all the way – though to convince the fans, he will have to do far more than what he’s done so far in pre-season, after missing a penalty against Arsenal and several sitters in that and other games.
He spoke with the Mirror and said: “On the first day of pre-season I spoke to [Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia] and with the manager [Maurizio Sarri] and I said: ‘I want to stay at Chelsea’.
“They told me: ‘We have a lot of confidence in you and we want you to stay too.’ So everything was perfect.
“All the people said I wanted to leave, that I was not happy in London but its not true. Now I have taken another house, a bigger one, near to Cobham.
“My wife is very happy. When everyone is talking about the possibility to leave I am here looking for a house.”
