Chelsea to sell key forward ahead of £115m bid for Real Madrid star & Premier League goal-machinePublished February 06, 2017
Chelsea are contemplating selling Diego Costa to fund a double raid for Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Morata, according to reports.
With Chinese Super League sides circling, star forward Costa could be on course to leave the Stamford Bridge this summer, and the world-class duo would serve as more than adequate replacements.
A high-profile spat with Antonio Conte dented the Spain striker’s relationship with the Chelsea boss, and although the rift seems to have temporarily healed, speculation is rife that the Blues could cash in on him at the end of the season.
Tianjin Quanjian offered around £70m for the ex-Atletico striker back in January, but while the move eventually failed to materialise, Spanish journalist Manu Carreno told local radio over the weekend that a £30m per year agreement was “total and absolute” for the summer.
Costa, who has 15 goals and five assists for Chelsea so far this season, would certainly leave a cavernous gap to fill in the Blues striking line, however, Chelsea officials are already believed to be lining up options to compensate for his loss.
Chief among them is Manchester City striker Aguero, who has fallen out of favour with Pep Guardiola in recent weeks.
The Daily Mirror claims that the Stamford Bridge club are weighing up a £75m offer to take advantage of his strained relationship with Guardiola and pip Real Madrid to his signature.
Despite being eclipsed by new City signing Gabriel Jesus over the past month, 28-year-old Aguero is still in the prime of his career, and has struck 154 goals in 234 games for the north-west outfit.
Another player on Chelsea’s radar is Real Madrid forward Morata. The Spain international returned to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu from Juventus last summer, but has since struggled to break into Zinedine Zidane’s plans.
This has alerted a number of clubs, including rivals Arsenal, however, The Daily Telegraph writes that the Blues are leading the race to sign the £50m-rated striker, with Morata understood to have told close family and friends about an impending move to west London.
Morata has 10 goals in 23 games for Los Blancos so far this season.
