Chelsea reject Oscar to become one of football's best-paid players with China movePublished December 15, 2016
Chelsea reject Oscar will be laughing all the way to the bank on his way out of Stamford Bridge. The Brazilian playmaker is going to earn an astonishing amount of money when he moves to China next month. The Times reports that he’ll earn more than £20 million per year after tax when he moves to Shanghai SIPG.
By the Times’ estimation, this will make him the third highest-paid player in world football behind only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. But neither of those players is earning £400,000-a-week from their club pay packet. The only player who’s on that kind of money also plays in China.
The last round of Football Leaks revealed that Ezequiel Lavezzi, now of Hebei China Fortune, earns £400,000-a-week too. The former Paris Saint-Germain attacker was rumoured to fancy a return to France with Nice on loan. He obviously moved to China for the money and few people would be able to resist such a lucrative offer.
Oscar is currently earning £90,000-a-week at Chelsea so if his £60 million transfer goes through next month, he’ll more than quadruple his earnings. He’s been out of favour at Stamford Bridge this season so it’s no surprise to see him leaving, although it does come as a shock to see him joining ex-Blues boss Andres Villas-Boas in Shanghai.
