Chelsea ready to sell star player as part of £60m swap deal: Antonio Conte preparing for shock Blues transfer
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is reportedly so desperate to land his former Juventus charge Leonardo Bonucci that he is ready to offer the Italian giants the services of star player Eden Hazard in a exchange deal according to The Sun.
The 29-year-old Italian international is considered one of the best centre-backs in world football and is valued at as much as £60m, which would make the tough tackler the most expensive defender ever.
Chelsea have certainly struggled at the back this season, with Gary Cahill and David Luiz both failing to impress, and with John Terry clearly in the latter stages of his career it makes sense to bring in a solid option at the back.
Cesc Fabregas had previously been linked with a move to Juventus as part of a similar swap deal but now it appears Hazard is the man most likely to be sacrificed.
The 25-year-old Belgian had a woeful campaign in 2015/16 but showed signs of recovery in the final weeks of the season and started the current term with goals against West Ham and Burnley but has failed to contribute a single goal or assist in his past four Premier League appearances and by all accounts Conte isn’t impressed.
Chelsea paid Lille £32m for Hazard back in 2012 and his valuation now must be way in excess of that sum now and one also has to wonder if the attacker is interested in a move to Italy where he will not be able to secure a salary in the same ballpark as he receives at Stamford Bridge.
