Chelsea place incredible price tag on Real Madrid target's head
Chelsea consider themselves to be one of the biggest clubs in the world, so it’s never going to go down well if another club tries to sign one of their players.
Said club is Real Madrid – arguably a bigger club, at least in terms of history and revenue – and said player is their goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois.
Given Courtois is one of the best young keepers in the game, and that the club sold Petr Cech to accommodate him, it doesn’t really come as a shock to hear they do not want to allow Courtois to leave. However, if their hand is forced, and they do have to sell the player, they won’t be left short changed.
The Blues want £85 million for the player, an amount that would not only allow them to buy a replacement, but also another player to boot.
Quite if you can replace someone as good as Courtois remains to be seen – but if a player wants to join their dream club, the best situation for a board and manager is to recoup the maximum amount of money possible for them, and that seems to be what Chelsea are set on doing.
Conte is also eyeing Jan Oblak as a replacement – someone who has proven his worth time and time again for Atletico Madrid, ironically the same club the Blues loaned Courtois to during his initial seasons at the club.
