Frank Lampard has sensationally claimed he wants to return to Chelsea as a player according to Sky Sports.
After leaving to go to Manchester City and then the MLS, the midfielder has ben talking about how much he loves the Blues – and wants to play for them once again.
Quite if that would happen given how Chelsea are playing and the calibre of midfielders they currently have remains to be seen, but Lampard could well return to the club in a coaching capacity.
Lampard said: “I’m still waiting for the five-year contract to come through from Chelsea, they haven’t called yet! We used to get those easily!
“Myself and John are Chelsea through and through. Whatever happens, in some capacity I will be at Chelsea, whether that’s with my season ticket watching them, but I don’t know.
“I will be in very close contact, whether I have a role, that’s not all in my hands so I can’t go any further than that.”
In all likelihood, Terry and Lampard wil probably return as coaches, given their standing with Chelsea fans and also the players – not to mention the all powerful owner Roman Abramovich.
Antonio Conte is hardly in need of coaches given how well Chelsea are doing, but one option for the club could well be to allow Lampard to coach the academy, with the amount of quality kids at Chelsea who are loaned out seen as far too many by some – and that could be the ideal way to try and finally bring them through to the first team.
