Antonio Rudiger makes startling claim after horrible defeat
Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger has made a shocking claim in the wake of the Blues’ 3-0 defeat to Roma in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
The German defender was making his first return to the Stadio Olimpico after leaving for the Premier League champions in the summer. It turned into a nightmare with an embarrassing defeat on a night that could have seen Antonio Conte’s side reach the knockout rounds.
It has been a tough start to life in England for Rudiger, and after his mistake led to Stephen El Shaarawy scoring a second for the hosts on 36 minutes, the 26-year-old has admitted his side “gave up”.
El Shaarawy had already opened the scoring after just three minutes; Argentine midfielder Diego Perotti wrapped up the win just past the hour mark.
The Blues are already trailing Manchester City domestically; they still lead their group, courtesy of Atletico Madrid’s failure to beat Qarabag home or away, but the pressure is on to bounce back quickly after conceding three goals in successive games against Roma.
Midfielder N’Golo Kante is yet to return from injury, but Rudiger and his teammates will hope he does sooner rather than later.
