Antonio Conte’s unfruitful search for a defender looks set to have a happy ending.
The Chelsea boss has admitted that he would like to sign another defender to his ranks, before the end of the summer transfer window on August 31.
The West London side have been linked with Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci, and Napoli’s highly-rated centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly, but it appears that the Chelsea boss has his sights set on another Serie A defender.
According to Marca, Chelsea are close to completing the signing of Marcos Alonso from Fiorentina.
Antonio Conte will reportedly offer £22m in a bid to secure the defender’s signature.
The 25-year-old already has experience of the Premier League after making 35 appearances for Bolton in a three-year spell between 2010 and 2013.
The Spaniard left Bolton in 2013 to join Fiorentina but was back in England again just a year later when Sunderland took him on loan under the management of Gus Poyet.
