A social media campaign to give terminally ill Sunderland supporter Bradley Lowery December’s Goal of the Month award has received widespread support from fans, players and media outlets.
After a long struggle with cancer, five-year-old Bradley Lowery from Hartlepool was recently told that his illness was fatal.
Invited to the Stadium of Light for the midweek game against Chelsea as the guest of Sunderland Football Club, Bradley was afforded the chance to meet his heroes and take a penalty on the pitch before the encounter.
His successful effort past Blues goalkeeper Asmir Begovic prompted cheers from both sets of fans, with a social media campaign now under way to award the youngster with December’s Goal of the Month award.
The trending hashtag
#BradleyLoweryForGoalOfTheMonth has already garnered tens of thousands of tweets, and has been circulated by a string of players including Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi.
You can vote for Bradley to be Goal of the Month by tweeting the above on social media.
Fingers crossed that the youngster’s dreams come true.
