Over the last 24 hours, the situation surrounding Mesut Ozil’s contract negotiations at Arsenal seem to have taken a bizarre twist.
On Wednesday German sport paper Bild, had claimed that the German midfielder is very close to signing a new blockbuster deal at Arsenal, which would reportedly see the 27-year-old earn in the region of £200,000-a-week. (read earlier story here).
It was claimed that it was only a matter of time until Ozil put pen to paper on a new deal, with Arsenal fans getting ready to celebrate the midfielder commit his future in North London for the forseeable future.
But on Wednedsay, the same tabloid, has claimed that the German is making things difficult in his contract negotiations and is actually keen on a move back to former club Real Madrid.
It’s claimed that Ozil is demanding a relatively low buyout clause be inserted into any new contract he signs, with one eye being keen on a return to the La Liga giants, who he left in 2013 to sign for the Gunners in a £42m deal.
Whilst we are unsure what to believe at this current moment in time, we do indeed expect Ozil to sign a new Arsenal contract in the near future, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the German midfielder is still not keen on a return to Spain.
