Barcelona are eyeing a move for this WORLD CLASS star next summer
Barcelona could be set to swoop for Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann next summer, as they plot to spend the remainder of the money from the sale of Neymar to PSG.
The Blaugrana were rocked to the core when it became evident the French side were able to afford Neymar’s £196million buyout clause at the Camp Nou; things went from bad to worse when it emerged it was the players’ plan to move to the Parc des Princes and they could get around UEFA’S Financial Fair Play rules rules to secure the deal without Barcelona being able to stop them.
With Luis Enrique leaving and being replaced by Ernesto Valverde in the summer, there was already a sense of trepidation around the club, but the departure of Neymar sent them into meltdown. They signed Borussia Dortmund youngster Ousemane Dembele as a replacement, but failed to secure another major target, Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool and even missed out on their third option, PSG’s Angel Di Maria, before the transfer window closed.
But instead of revisiting deals for either player, the Barcelona board have a new man in their sights. According to Catalan sports newspaper Mundo Deportivo, the Barca board have set their sights on ‘Operation Griezmann’ in a bid to sign the Frenchman from Atletico. He was expected to leave in an £86million deal last summer, the price the buyout clause in his contract is set at, but he remained at the club because they were hit with a transfer ban and could not replace him until January.

Manchester United were interested but once the deal fell through. They moved swiftly to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic on a new contract and Romelu Lukaku from Everton for £75million. It is unlikely they will be chasing Griezmann again. The player himself will likely look to leave at the end of the season and Barcelona could be the perfect club to sign for. He could compliment the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, allowing Dembele more time to develop into a star after his injury. Astonishingly, though, Messi is yet to sign a new contract at the club and as it stands will be leaving in the summer. Could Griezmann actually be gearing up to replace the irreplaceable?
