Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Olivier Giroud is carrying a knock after their EFL Cup win over West Ham United, and that he’s a major doubt for the game against Liverpool later in the week.
The forward has made it clear he wants to play more games, and there have even been rumours he could be set to leave the club, with Wenger disputing that and claiming the Gunners need him – and have no intention of selling.
Giroud has proven time and time again he’s a key player for Arsenal, and certainly contributes in terms of his goals – and his injury will be a loss for Wenger’s side, especially with so many key games coming up over the festive period.
He said: “It doesn’t look very good for him.
“I think he’s out of Friday night.”
The injury comes on the back of Wenger speaking ahead of the game, and making the point that he has to rotate, with so many players being tired and carrying knocks.
“But you cannot say that you prefer to play a player who has played three games in six days to a guy who is at the same level and is completely fresh.

“The players who will start are basically all international players, so that’s why I think it’s a decision that makes sense and you have as well to show the trust and the confidence that we have in the players who did not start last week.
“We finished a bit flat in the second half against Newcastle, so it’s important to give a chance to other players and as well to use the squad – and that’s what I will do.”
