Arsenal target shock move for Man United defender Phil JonesPublished August 24, 2016
It seems like Arsenal are bidding for every defender in world football at the minute.
The North Club have seen their summer transfer plans turn into a farce, with the Gunners failing to land many of their reported big name transfer targets.
The North London side are in desperate need of a defender, following the long-term injuries to Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista, and it’s well known that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is actively pursuing a number of defensive options ahead of the closing of the transfer window on August 31.
It was thought that Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi was set for a move to the Emirates, but despite initial reports that a transfer was set to be complete this month, it’s now thought that the defender is set to stay in Spain for another season.
Arsenal’s failure to land Mustafi, has seen them linked with a big money move for West Brom’s Jonny Evans, but recent reports suggest Arsene Wenger is in favour of signing a current Man United defender and not a former one.
According to the Telegraph, Wenger is now considering a move for unwanted United defender Phil Jones.
The 24-year-old is now surplus to requirements at Old Trafford under Jose Mourinho, with a number of Premier League clubs waiting to pounce.
But it’s believed that the defender would be keen on a move to North London, should Arsenal step up their interest in the centre-back.
Whilst no price has been set, it’s understood that United would be willing to do business at around £12m, something which even Arsene Wenger would find reasonable, surely?
