Arsenal target £40million bid for unsettled Premier League star
After agreeing a new two-year contract at Arsenal. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will target a move for unsettled Leicester star Riyad Mahrez, per The Sun.
Mahrez, 26, announced his desire to leave the Foxes this summer, just a year after he signed a new four-year deal in the aftermath of their famous Premier League title win.
But a poor season in comparison, despite reaching the Champions League quarter finals, mean Mahrez is now looking for a new challenge.
Leicester will not want to sell a prized asset, with the Algerian winning the PFA Player of the Year for 2016, but Arsenal are willing to spend £40million to get a deal done.
Wenger’s decision to renew his contract will certainly divide fans, with a growing section demanding he leave after failure to qualify for the Champions League. Even the FA Cup victory last week has not changed many minds.
Whether a move for Mahrez would impact the futures of either Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Özil, but both have contracts expiring next summer.
