According to renowned Italian transfer site Di Marzio, the North London club are set to offer striker Olivier Giroud plus a staggering €50m, in a bid to land Napoli hitman Gonzalo Higuain this summer
The Argentine striker has long been on the wish-list of Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, and the Frenchman is reportedly ready to step up his interest in the player, with this audacious transfer bid.
Signing Gonzalo Higuain would represent a real coup for the North London side, with the 28-year-old setting a Serie A record last season, with 36 goals in 35 league games to help Napoli finish as runners-up behind Juventus.
It is well known that a striker is Arsenal’s main transfer priority this summer, with the club already failing in their attempts to lure Leicester’s Jamie Vardy to the Emirates.
But whilst signing one of the most in-demand strikers in world football would be an excellent addition to Arsenal’s playing squad, letting polarizing striker, Olivier Giroud, leave the club in exchange, would leave the Gunners light upfront.
The Frenchman certainly divides opinion in North London, but Giroud proved this summer at Euro 2016 that he could be an important asset for many clubs, and Arsenal could end up regretting the day they parted ways with the 29-year-old.
But before we start talking about practicalities of any such move, it is important to note that part-exchange deals are always very complicated to negotiate, so we advise Arsenal fans to leave the champagne on ice for now.
