Arsenal and Liverpool fans react as Daniel Sturridge is linked with £30m move to the Emirates [Tweets]Published May 09, 2016
Arsenal and Liverpool fans have taken to social media on Sunday, after recent reports in the Daily Mirror claim that the Gunners are considering a £30m bid for Reds striker Daniel Sturridge.
It has been reported for some time that the 26-year-old has been frustrated with his recent lack of first time opportunities at Anfield, and the England international is believed to want showdown talks with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp this summer, in a bid to resolve his future on Merseyside.
The 26-year-old scored in Liverpool’s 3-0 second leg win over Villarreal , having been an unused substitute for the first game in Spain, and whilst Jurgen Klopp described Sturridge’s performance in helping Liverpool to the final of the Europa League as ‘outstanding’, the German coach has not always been best pleased with the 26-year-old’s performances this season.
Daniel Sturridge last signed a Liverpool contract in 2014 and the fact that he has not yet been offered a new one speaks volumes for how he is perceived by Liverpool’s German boss.
It is understood that Klopp is still undecided on whether or not Sturridge has a long term future at Anfield, and that uncertainty has apparently led to Gunners boss Arsene Wenger stepping up his interest in the forward.
A fee for Sturridge seems like it would be rather tricky to negotiate. Judging by today’s transfer standards, Liverpool would rate the forward way above the £30million mark but potential bidders would point to his injury issues as a reason for a reduced figure.
It is well known that a striker is Arsenal’s main transfer priority this summer. Title rivals Spurs, Manchester City, and Leicester have all outscored the Gunners this season, a definite sign that Arsene Wenger needs to add firepower to his squad before the beginning of the next campaign.
Whilst Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott have failed to perform consistently this season, Danny Welbeck has returned from injury and has shown goal scoring promise, but it would be a huge surprise if Arsene Wenger did not strengthen the Arsenal attack this summer.
In light of this recent transfer speculation, both Arsenal and Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to have their say on the Daniel Sturridge to Arsenal rumour.
The Arsenal fans in particular seem to be taking this rumour in good humour.
