Arsenal finally launch official Riyad Mahrez bid: Gunners offer £30m for Leicester City star
Arsenal have reportedly failed with an £30m bid for Leicester City attacker Riyad Mahrez according to French source L’Equipe (via the Daily Telegraph).
The 25-year-old Algerian enjoyed a breakout season in 2015/16, his tally of 17 goals and 11 assists helping the Foxes to a shock Premier League title triumph and earning the attacking midfielder a PFA Player of the Year gong.
As such, it’s not surprising that this bid failed, with many valuing Mahrez far in excess of the sum offered, and one wonders if the North London side make a second offer for the creative talent.
Arguably Arsene Wenger is in more urgent need of a striker, or even a centre-back, than yet another playmaker but it’s fair to say that the prospect of a front three with Alexis Sanchez on one flank and Mahrez on another is a mouthwatering one to say the least.
A second Arsenal bid may follow as Leicester City attempt to keep hold of their top talents having already seen defensive midfielder N’Golo Kante leave for Chelsea earlier this summer.
