Everton last night confirmed a multi-million pound deal with USM Holdings to make the Russian company their new training ground sponsor.
The news sent the internet into meltdown after it emerged that the founder of the group was none other than Arsenal shareholder Alisher Usmanov.
Rumours have been rife of the 63-year-old billionaire’s interest in the Toffees since friend and former Gunners colleague Farhad Moshiri purchased a sizeable stake in the Merseysiders in February.
And once word broke of a deal involving his company and Everton, social media was awash with comment from worried Arsenal fans and buoyant Blues.
Here’s the best of Twitter following the announcement.
Everton fans were understandably excited…
Every blue who was just about to go to bed then heard the Usmanov story ? https://t.co/z36xBA7ok3— ToffeeTVEFC (@ToffeeTVEFC) January 5, 2017

But some Arsenal supporters bemoaned the potential departure of Russia’s richest man…
If Arsenal lose Usmanov, it would be a bigger loss than both Ozil and Sanchez put together.— Shabs (@Redbutdred) January 6, 2017
So, after all this time, Usmanov is investing in a team looking to cover the cost of a new stadium. And it's not Arsenal. Quelle surprise.— Stephen Bradley (@bradley08) January 6, 2017
Big up to Usmanov who in 5 minutes involvement at Everton has put more money into the club than Kroenke has done here in 6 years— Mouth (@goonermouth) January 6, 2017
