Any manager knows that the best kind of headache to have in terms of running the club is one over who to play in your first team – because the competition for places is so high and the quality is so good.
So for Arsene Wenger to be thinking about how he’s going to set up his team – not to compensate for injuries or suspensions, but just because key players and fringe players are all doing well, it’s good news indeed.

Following their Europa League win and qualification to the next round, that’s exactly the comments Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott were making, both of whom have uncertain futures at the club, with Walcott linked with Everton and Wilshere also looking at leaving once his contract expires if there isn’t another offer on the table – or the chance to play regularly at the Emirates.
“The boss told us to enjoy ourselves,” Walcott told BT Sport following the game. “We played with a lot of freedom. Defensively we were solid. Obviously, it’s nice to get all these goals.

“There is plenty of competition when you play for Arsenal. We are doing our best to give the manager a headache to pick us for the team. We were very professional tonight. We will see in time what’s going to happen.”
Of course, Walcott isn’t the only player who is causing trouble for the Gunners manager at the minute – Jack Wilshere is doing all he can to force a place in the side and a new contract, and he added: “It’s a bit of a relief [that I scored]. It’s one of those games – it didn’t mean anything because we had topped the group.
“It’s one of those games you need to be in the right mind – we enjoyed it. We’re happy to go into the next round. All we can do when we get our opportunity is give the manager a headache.”
