Arsenal draw up list of potential replacements as Alexis Sanchez edges towards Gunners exit: Are these players good enough?
Arsenal are drawing up a list of potential replacements for contract rebel Alexis Sanchez, with the Gunners looking at Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette, Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus and Porto striker Andre Silva ahead of possible summer moves according to the Daily Mail.
Amazing Coral Offer!
The report claims Arsenal are still intent on signing up their Chilean talisman to a new deal, offering him £180,000-per-week. But with only 18 months left to run on his current contract, nerves are increasing that the player will depart.
Mesut Ozil, Sanchez’s incredibly talented, if inconsistent, teammate, is in a similar situation and could also leave the Emirates Stadium.
But the questions remain as to whether the trio of players are good enough to step into Sanchez’s shoes. The 28-year-old does not only posses immense, talent, but also a work-rate often unrivalled by his teammates. Looking at it on paper, the smoothest transition would occur if Marco Reus arrived. The German, while not exactly the same type of player as Sanchez, plays a similar role in terms of leadership and position at the Signal Iduna Park and would request the smallest amount of change to Arsene Wenger’s system.
But Wenger’s future is also uncertain and he could leave after 21 years at the club in the summer. Reus’ current boss, Thomas Tuchel, has been linked as a possible replacement, and that would certainly enhance the chances of a deal. Reus has struggled with injuries of late, but most definitely has the ability to step into Sanchez’s big boots.
Lacazette has built himself a great reputation as a goalscorer in Ligue 1 and one of the best in Europe. Many people believe he is the kind of striker Arsenal have needed since Robin van Persie left for Manchester United in 2012, but there would have to be a reshuffle in terms of formation. Having scored 21 league goals this season, Lacazette is most definitely good enough for the Gunners and has been linked in the past, so he is a well-known quantity. But they will likely face competition for his signature, let alone the possibility of paying around £50million for him.
Porto’s Andre Silva is one of the best young players in the world. The 21-year-old striker is a real goal poacher and he has scored 18 goals in just 33 games for Porto. In the modern market, he is a player who will cost a hefty amount, and it is a battle of experience against potential when deciding whether to pay it. Right now, he is the highest risk of those players rumoured to replace Alexis Sanchez.
