Arsenal defender’s future dependent on Wenger stay as Barcelona circlePublished February 24, 2017
Barcelona target Hector Bellerin is open to leaving Arsenal if Arsene Wenger departs the club this summer.
The Spanish right-back has been identified as a key target by former team Barca as they bid to sign a long-term successor to Dani Alves.
And with a summer bid likely to be forthcoming, reports suggest that his future is very much dependent on whether manager Wenger stays at the Emirates Stadium.
The Guardian writes that with Wenger out of contract this summer and speculation building that a departure is on the cards, 21-year-old Bellerin is weighing up his own situation in north London.
Arsenal’s slump from the top of the table to 5th place at the time of writing is not believed to have perturbed the young full-back, who credits the Frenchman with playing a formative role in his own development.
Under Wenger, Bellerin has turned into one of the Premier League’s top defenders. That relationship spurred the Barcelona-born star to spurn the advances of Manchester City over the summer, as he felt he owed Wenger a debt of loyalty.
He signed a six-and-a-half year contract with Arsenal back in November, but may be forced to reconsider his place at the club should his mentor depart.
Bellerin joined Arsenal from Barca’s La Masia in 2011 and has made 98 appearances in his time in the capital.
