Arsenal close in on stunning £72m transfer as target conducts 'emergency' talks ahead of summer deal
Marco Asensio has reportedly requested ‘emergency talks’ with Real Madrid, according to the Mirror.
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder caught the eyes of Arsenal, after a stellar performance at the Under-21 European Championship and his recent 90th minute goal against Barcelona in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup.
The Spaniard is looking to leverage the Gunners interest to receive a new contract, hoping to be part of Real Madrid’s future. Arsenal are interested in breaking his £72m release clause, according to Diario Gol.
Asensio is currently on a youth salary and could potentially earn seven times more, matching teammates Isco, Toni Kroos, and Luka Modric. The rising star scored ten goals in 38 matches in all competitions, as well as a goal in the Champions League final against Juventus.
Whiles teammates Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, and Karim Benzema are ageing at the club, he could see his role increase in the upcoming years in Madrid. Ansensio could put pen to paper shortly, ending all speculations.
Arsenal is just one of many clubs eyeing the Real Madrid midfielder. The promising player has attracted the attention of several clubs including Manchester United, Barcelona, and Juventus. Liverpool have already had a £42m offer rejected, as Zinedine Zidane’s looks to have him in his future at the Spanish capital.
