Antonio Conte wants Chelsea to make a PSG star their top January transfer target. Marco Verratti has a contract which runs until 2021 but the Blues believe that they can test their resolve. They’ve already proposed a £30million fee and that has been rebuffed. They’re going to have to do better than that, say PSG.
It begs the question: Is Verratti for sale?
One imagines that the answer is no. Why else would PSG renew his contract and improve his terms? Maybe they’re waiting to see if Chelsea make an outrageous offer and then they’ll consider it. The fact that they haven’t shut down the possibility of the Italy international moving is interesting. With the Blues at the top of the Premier League, Roman Abramovich is prepared to back Conte in this window.
So would he be interested in spending all of that Oscar transfer money on a new player? The Brazilian playmaker has packed his bags for China after Shanghai SIPG slammed a briefcase crammed with £52million on the desk. Having re-signed David Luiz from PSG in the summer, the channel of communication is open.
Now it could all be about naming a price.
