£20m-rated Arsenal star wanted by Manchester City and EvertonPublished February 22, 2017
Manchester City and Everton will battle it out to sign Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer, according to reports.
The 23-year-old has just one year remaining on his current deal at the Emirates Stadium, and with contract extension talks yet to bear fruit, the Gunners may well decide to cash in on him at the end of the season.
And the Daily Mirror claims that this has alerted Premier League duo City and Everton, who are both set to be on the lookout for a versatile midfielder during the summer window.
Citizens manager Pep Guardiola is a known admirer of the England international after watching him impress against Bayern Munich in the Champions League two seasons ago.
But Ronald Koeman’s cash-flush Toffees could also join the race for his signature should he choose to leave Arsenal, with the Dutchman more likely to be able to offer regular first-team football to the former Southampton player than his north-west rival.
Oxlade-Chamberlain stoked speculation over his future back in October, when he indicated his unhappiness at his lack of playing-time for Arsene Wenger’s side.
He said: “There comes a time in your career where you have to re-evaluate things and think: ‘Is that going to be here or elsewhere?’
“As a footballer, you want to play every game. Me being myself, I’m not happy when I’m not playing.
“There is going to come a time in my career, and I think I’m approaching that, when I do need to be getting more regular football.”
Oxlade-Chamberlain has made just 17 starts in all competitions for Arsenal so far this campaign, scoring six goals, and is reportedly rated at around £20m by Gunners chiefs.
