£201m Transfer: Expert predicts that this Premier League star will become most expensive signing ever...
Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli has proven to be a rising star in the Premier League and could be the next top target for European clubs.
Football finance expert Raffaele Poli believes the England international could surpass Neymar’s status as the most expensive footballer, according to Goal.
After Neymar shattered the world-transfer record, it is likely the price of players will continue to rise and Alli could be the next in line to become the highest paid player. Poli is the head of the Football Observatory at the International Centre for Sports Studies, and expects next summer’s transfer window to reach new heights.
“A player like Dele Alli – if he does well, if he does a good domestic league with Tottenham, if he does a good Champions League campaign, if he does a good World Cup with England next year then I wouldn’t be surprised if he could be transferred for more than Neymar’s price,” says Poli.
The 21-year-old currently earns around £60,000-a-week but has the potential to earn around £200,000-a-week. While Alli signed a new six-year deal last September, he’s already been linked to a move to Premier League rivals Manchester United and Chelsea. He’s been a huge part of the Spurs recent success since joining from MK Dons in 2015 for £5million.
While the Tottenham midfielder is expected to make more in the future, there are many bigger stars today who are more likely to surpass Neymar. His Spurs teammate Harry Kane was the top goal scorer in the Premier League last season netting 29 goals and likely to continue to excel despite struggling in August.
The 2018 World Cup will provide the top footballers to showcase their talent on the world stage and the transfer-window prices will surely reach another level. Who will topple Neymar is yet to be seen.
