The Ryanair Chase Betting Tips & Odds 2018
14.50 The Ryanair Steeple Chase
The Grade 1 Ryanair Chase run over 2m 5f has developed into a contender to be a Championship race in its own right in recent years and is now worth more in prize money than the Stayers Hurdle race which is on straight after it on Day 3 of Cheltenham Festival 2018.
Won over the years by some old favourites like Cue Card, Albertus Run and Vautour, the Ryanair Chase was last year won by the serial winner Un De Sceaux, for legendary Irish trainer Willie Mullins and jockey Ruby Walsh.
The 2018 renewal is already shaping up to be a very classy affair and there are several interesting contenders now beginning to take shape.
Ryanair Chase Feature Betting Tip
The race currently revolves around the star chaser of the north Waiting Patiently and whether connections will take their chance having proven himself at the highest level in the Ascot Chase when getting the better of CUE CARD.
The latter has been confirmed for this and showcased the ability was fully intact, despite being a 12-year old, when giving Ruth Jefferson’s chaser a proper race last month. He holds a very realistic chance of winning the race for a second time having done so five years ago.
Standing in the way of the aforementioned pair is last year’s winner Un De Sceaux who arrives here having won both his starts this season but the form of those performances aren’t particularly strong and the Ryanair he won last year has only produced one other winner since.
Balko Des Flos did very little wrong when second to Road To Respect over 3m in the Christmas Chase at Leopardstown and the drop in trip here is no issue as he possesses plenty of pace.
At the time of writing, 2017 Ryanair Chase winner Un De Sceaux is trading as the 4/1 favourite to defend his crown, though this year’s race might be a bit stronger and he is now ten, so could be vulnerable to some younger legs.
Top Notch is having an outstanding season far and is no bigger than 5/1 to follow up with a win here 12 months on. He could well be the one to serve it up to Un De Sceaux, but Fox Norton also comes strongly into the picture at around 11/2, boasting some of the best form on offer.
Finally, Malcolm Jefferson’s Waiting Patiently has been developing into a legitimate Ryanair contender and is now into a top price of 10/1, but 8’s and 9’s mostly, in a vibrant and interesting Cheltenham betting market.
