RSA Steeple Chase Betting Tips & Odds 2018

14.10 The RSA Steeple Chase

The RSA Chase has long been regarded as the toughest test of a staying novice chase on the National Hunt calendar. A three mile Grade 1 contest worth around £175,000 in prize money, the second Grade 1 of Ladies Day at Cheltenham is always a top viewing experience.

In 2017, the subsequent King George winner and now Gold Cup favourite Might Bite won the race in dramatic fashion, having veered violently off course coming up the hill. But he regained his stride and ran out an impressive winner.

The Cheltenham betting market for the 2018 RSA Chase is already shaping up to be a hugely competitive race, as you could throw a blanket over a big number of legitimate contenders toward the head of the market.

RSA Steeple Feature Betting Tip

The seven-year-old Presenting Percy won the Pertemps Final over hurdles at the meeting last year and was last seen chasing home Our Duke over fences at Gowran in February.

His credentials certainly stand up in this race. A comprehensive winner of the €100,000 Porterstown Handicap Chase against older horses, just two starts after winning a beginners’ chase, Presenting Percy then registered his first Grade Two success in the Galmoy Hurdle, before going out on his shield after battling with Our Duke in the Red Mills Chase.

BLACK CORTON and jockey Bryony Frost are definitely the story of the season and they could well round off their remarkable campaign together with victory in the RSA.

Since setting out together in the summer, the pair have faced the starter eight times together and only met with defeat once, at Newbury in December.

Monalee is also prominent in the ante-post market for the Henry de Bromhead team.

Main Players

Irish raider Monalee remains the 7/1 favourite despite things going wrong in his Cheltenham trial race in Ireland. He is exciting and could be anything.

Presenting Percy is another Irish raider high on the list of possibles, but he also has the option of the four miler. Paul Nicholls trains Black Corton, a winning machine this season and he’ll be very interesting if holding his form, while the Alan King trained Yanworth could also take his chance.
