The JLT Novices’ Chase Betting Tips & Odds 2018
13.30 The JLT Novices’ Chase
Last year’s Neptune Novices’ Hurdle winner Willoughby Court is the betting favourite for the JLT Novices Chase a year on, having made a good transition to fences so far during the 2017-2018 National Hunt season.
Cheltenham Festival form is all important and this Grade 1 contest kicks off day three of the Festival in March, which is often known as ‘St Patrick’s Thursday’.
Cheltenham Day 4 Betting Offers
A 2 mile 4 furlong chase, the JLT Novices’ Chase is a top class race for the brightest steeplechasing prospects to show off their skills on the biggest stage of all. Last year, the enigmatic Yorkhill got the better of Top Notch, in a brilliant renewal of the race.
JLT Novices’ Feature Betting Tip
Willie Mullins has won four of the seven renewals since the race’s inauguration back in 2011 with the last two for owner Graham Wylie. The pair are represented this year by Invitation Only, who finished third last time in the ultra-competitive Grade 1 Flogas Novices’ Chase to Monalee.
Finian’s Oscar switches back to fences having had a mixed season and a wind operation since his latest start in the Cleeve Hurdle at Cheltenham when pulled up over 3m. First-time blinkers have also been touted and they could easily make a difference.
The recent rain that has hit Prestbury Park has tempted connections of TERREFORT to take their chance and the Scilly Isles winner comes here with potential for further improvement to come.
For each-way supporters, Kemboy may represent a little bit of betting value as his form over hurdles looks pretty strong and his jumping, apart from the last when he won at Fairyhouse, has been very solid.
Trainer Ben Pauling is responsible for the 5/1 market leader in Willoughby Court, who has put together some very promising runs over fences so far. He is expected to improve for the Spring ground and with a Festival win already on his CV, the six-year-old will be undoubtedly popular among the Prestbury Park faithful.
Invitation Only appears to be the chief hope of the Irish contingent and he is a quality novice, showing an excellent turn of food to fend off Koshari in his Cheltenham trial race at Fairyhouse in early January and is 10/1 generally,
Invitation Only is followed in the betting by Gary Moore’s Benatar, with Yanworth ranging in price from 6/1 ‘NRNB’ (Non-runner, No Bet), with 12/1 the regular ante-post top price.
