There are four short-priced favourites on Day 1 of the Cheltenham Festival, two are odds-on, Apples Jade is one of them.
The Irish-trained horse goes in the Mares Hurdle, race five on the card due off at 4.10pm, and it will be a major upset if she is beaten.
Victorious in this race 12 months ago, and unbeaten in four starts since, Apples Jade brings the best credentials to the race. Vitally all of her ten race victories have come with a ‘soft’, ‘heavy’ or ‘yielding’ going description so she is sure to get the ground she loves on Tuesday.
This will be the eleventh running of the Mares Hurdle and the last nine went to Irish-trained horses including Quevega who won it a remarkable six times. They will surely win it again this year with another Irish runner, Benie Des Dieux trading as 4/1 second favourite.
But Benie Des Dieux has a lot to find on official figures and while backing odds-on shots is normally a fast-track to the poor house, there are some outstanding Cheltenham offers which means Apples Jade has to be backed.
Bet smart with two bookies
For starters the Betfair Sportsbook will give all new customers 28/1 about the odds-on favourite. This outstanding offer may be limited to a £1 maximum stake but that means you can only lose £1 while the upside is £28 in free bet winnings.
And if you really want to bet smart you can and should head over to Genting Bet too who are giving all customers a free bet matching the value of their first bet on Day 1 of Cheltenham betting.
As a safety net you could take advantage of this offer and place a ‘saver bet’ on the second favourite. You really will have nothing to lose as victory for either horse will show a healthy profit while defeat for Benie Des Dieux will result in your stakes back as a free bet.
