Second to Le Prezien in 2018 the Kerry Lee-trained Gino Trial looks overpriced at 33-1 to go one better in Cheltenham’s Grand Annual.
GINO TRAIL – 33-1 with bet365 (nrnb) 4.50pm Cheltenham Friday 15th March.
The Paul Nicholls stable has won two of the last three renewals of the Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Handicap Chase. And if the early betting is to be believed the Ditcheat handler has a great chance of making it three from four with the unexposed Magic Saint, a best price 7-1 with bet365 (nrnb) in their Cheltenham betting odds. Watch out for the Stoke-based bookmaker’s Cheltenham Free Bet offers.
The five-year-old joined Nicholls from France last September and after showing much promise in his first two starts got off the mark at Wincanton, taking the lead jumping the second last and coming home by over four lengths in the hands of Daryl Jacob. Sent off the 11-10 favourite for that two mile handicap the son of Saint Des Saints in clearly held in some regard and with just those three runs to date for the master of Ditcheat plenty more improvement can be expected.

"A really nice 5-year-old, won at Wincanton 10 days ago in a 2 mile handicap chase."
"He absolutely dotted up at Wincanton, travelled well and he's improving."
"We've trained him for the Grand Annual, we think he'll go really well, and we really like him."
While not getting any younger at the age of 12, the gelding retains his form very well and in 19 starts over fences has finished outside of the first three on only three occasions. The son of Perugino’s best effort last season came in the Grand Annual when finding only Nicholls’ Le Prezien too good in the 22-runner handicap. After finishing second to the talented Dolos on his reappearance at Sandown last month Gino Trail was put in his place by Magic Saint at Wincanton when trying to concede 11lb to the favourite. On 8lb better terms in the penultimate race at the Cheltenham Festival it is hard to see why Gino Trail should be as big as 33-1 with bet365 (nrnb) to come out on top. Anyone taking advantage of the many Cheltenham Free Bet offers could do worse than having an each-way wager on Gino Trail who had Wind Surgery in the autumn.

The Nicky Henderson-trained Whatswrongwithyou is another to consider (10-1 with bet365 nrnb), while Not Another Muddle (14-1 with Ladbrokes nrnb) would have a decent chance for trainer Gary Moore if making the cut.
