Third in 2017 the Venetia Williams-trained Aso looks good each-way value at 20-1 (NRNB) for this year’s Ryanair Chase.
ASO – 20-1 with bet365 (nrnb) Ryanair Chase. 2.50pm Cheltenham Thursday 14th March.
The Ryanair Chase is always a good race to get involved in from an ante-post perspective, especially if there is value to be had with those bookmakers going non-runner-no-bet on the 2m 5f contest. The one thing that just about all of the leading contenders in the betting have in common is the fact that they have an entry in the shorter Queen Mother Champion Chase or the longer Magner’s Gold Cup.
Min, Footpad, Un De Sceaux, Politologue and Fox Norton could well end up in the two mile test of speed and jumping, despite the fact that the race currently looks at the mercy of the peerless Altior. Monalee, Road To Respect, Al Boum Photo, Kemboy, Balko Des Flos, Shattered Love, Terrefort and Frodon however all hold entry in the highlight on day four, won in 2018 by Native River.
One horse who is likely to have just the one entry, has won both of his starts this season under big weights and ran third in the 2017 Ryanair is the Venetia Williams-trained Aso who looks a cracking each-way bet at 20-1 with bet365 considering the Stoke-based firm are going non-runner-no- bet on the race. Anyone prepared to take the slightly riskier ante-post route can avail themselves of the 25-1 quoted by Ladbrokes and William Hill.
The son of Goldneyev has always looked a top class prospect (achieved a mark of 156 in 2017) but had over a year on the sidelines prior to make his seasonal debut at Newbury in November when making all for a convincing thirteen length victory. The nine-year-old looked to have a stiff task in an effort to follow up at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day but the mount of Charlie Deutsch gave over a stone and a beating to his six rivals under the welter-burdon of 11st 12lb. The gelding is clearly in tremendous form and is capable of running a big race at a course that clearly suits.
The other horse of interest is the classy Waiting Patiently. Not a certain starter but the 5-1 chance with bet365 and Paddy Power (both nrnb) could easily go off much shorter if allowed to take his chance.
