Jordan Gill to beat Zelfa Barrett
You never quite know what you’re going to get when Jordan Gill enters the ring – and that can often be to his credit.
The 29-year-old bounced from a career-worst defeat to Kiko Martinez in 2022 to a career-best win against Michael Conlan in destructive form last December.
Zelfa Barrett is a fantastic match for Gill who also owns two defeats on his record, with Barrett hoping to move back into world title contention following an unexpected 2022 loss.
Barrett has power that can trouble Gill, but there is something about Gill that makes us believe he has the mental make-up to get a win over the line here in what could well turn into a classic over the distance.
Efe Ajagba to beat Guido Vianello by KO/TKO/Disqualification
Big Nigerian heavyweight Efe Ajagba hasn’t quite made the splash in the heavyweight division that he and his team would have planned.
A fairly one-sided points loss to Frank Sanchez in 2021 exposed some weaknesses in the all-round game of the Texas-based fighter, but with four wins since is looking to reclaim status as a boogeyman in the division.
Guido Vianello isn’t expected to trouble Ajagba.
The Italian fights in that stiff European style and will find it hard to escape a big right hand from the favourite over 10 rounds.
Jared Anderson vs Ryad Merhy – Under 6.5 Rounds
For some time now, Jared Anderson has been billed and promoted as the next big American heavyweight.
“Big Baby” enjoyed a busy 2023 with wins over George Arias, Charles Martin and Andrii Rudenko and fights for the first time this year against Ryad Merhy this weekend.
Anderson’s 16-0 unbeaten record includes 15 big wins by KO and it’s hard to see Merhy escaping from a similar fate in Texas.
The Belgian is being propped up after an unexpected win over Tony Yoka in December, but a recent loss to Kevin Lerena underlined his frailties at the very top of the heavyweight mountain.
An Anderson stoppage inside the opening 6 rounds makes up the final leg of this weekend’s Acca.
