Weekend Boxing Acca feat. Joe Joyce, Nathan Heaney, Dennis McCann, William Zepeda
After last weekend’s “Knockout Chaos” we are back on schedule in the boxing world with action coming from Las Vegas and Birmingham.
Let’s take a look at the 12/1 Acca we’ve thrown together for this unmissable action.
Dennis McCann to beat Brad Strand by Decision/Technical Decision
McCann and Strand will be fighting for both the WBO European super bantamweight title and the WBO Inter-Continental super bantamweight belt on Saturday night, a fight that will signal the biggest in each fighter’s career.
McCann’s career has been growing slowly in the pros since turning over in 2019.
The “Menace” is unbeaten with a record of 14-0-1, the only blemish coming last August via a Technical Draw against Ionut Baluta thanks to a clash of heads.
Technically, McCann is one of the best fighters in Queensbury’s stable, but whether he will have the power to stop Brad Strand is probably where this fight hinges.
Liverpool’s Strand is 11-0 but has only three stoppages on his CV.
McCann should be confident in walking Strand down in the latter rounds, but we’re not convinced the younger man will be able to close the show inside the distance.
Joe Joyce vs Kash Ali – Under 3.5 Rounds
Joe Joyce is back in the ring following back-to-back defeats to Zhilei Zhang, looking to revive his threat in the heavyweight division.
The “Juggernaut” was touted as a potential world title challenger before walking head first into “Big Bang” and now has been offered the chance to get going again against Kash Ali.
Ali is pretty inactive and at least three or four levels below Joyce.
His last outing ended in defeat to Bohdan Myronets in a six-rounder and we’re not expecting this one to last very long against a hungry Joyce.
Joyce to get the W inside the first nine minutes.
Nathan Heaney to beat Brad Pauls by Unanimous Decision
Stoke’s Nathan Heaney is becoming a bit of a cult figure in the middleweight division.
The “Hitman” is a popular fighter at the 160-pound limit and defends his recently acquired British title against the talented Brad Pauls in Saturday night’s headline act.
With fighters like Denzel Bentley and Jack Flatley coming a cropper to the heart and punch output of Heaney since 2022, we’re not convinced that Pauls is going to be able to stand toe-to-toe with the “Hitman” and come out on top.
Heaney may not have that one-punch concussive KO power, but he should be active enough in the fight to win this one in pretty lopsided fashion.
William Zepeda to beat Maxi Hughes in Rounds 7-12
William Zepeda (29-0) is widely recognised as the most powerful hitter in the 135-pound division.
The Mexican southpaw has 25 KOs on his record and his most recent two opponents have only lasted a combined eight rounds against him.
Maxi Hughes is this weekend’s opposition to the 27-year-old, and with a tired record of 26-6-2, comes into this fight as a huge underdog in his advancing years.
Hughes hasn’t been stopped since 2018 and we think he’ll put up some resistance in the early stages over the fight until Zepeda decides to stick his foot on the gas and decide that enough is enough.
