There are four British men in the second round of the US Open for the first time in over 45 years after former champion Andy Murray – playing with his metal hip – produced a remarkable comeback to beat Yoshihito Nishioka in five sets on Tuesday.
Serena Williams, Novak Djokovic and Naomi Osaka are among the stars to have safely navigated their way through the opening round at Flushing Meadows in New York City.
Here are our top tips for the second round of the 2020 US Open.
Murray’s chances against 15th seed Auger-Aliassime depend heavily on how he recovers from that bruising encounter against Nishioka, with the Scot limping heavily at times, but at 7/5 from BetVictor he is great value to make it into the third round due to his remarkable mentality.
Experience counts for a lot at Grand Slams and Canada’s rising star Auger-Aliassime has a pretty poor 33 per cent win record at the majors so far in his young career.
Murray will put Auger-Aliassime under immense pressure and, fitness permitting, the former world number one will surely go through.
Like Murray, Sock had to play five sets to come through the opening round but his injury issues now look to be behind him, which makes him a fantastic shot at 33/20 with 888sport to beat Mannarino.
Sock has a 4-1 record against Mannarino in his career and the former top-10 star has a far better pedigree, with the Frenchman only once making it to round three of the US Open since 2014.
Anastasija Sevastova was a surprising first-round winner – putting poor form heading into the US Open behind her by knocking out teen sensation Cori Gauff – and she should make more progress by beating Marta Kostyuk at 8/11 with 888sport.
Former US Open semi-finalist Sevastova has over a decade more experience than 18-year-old Kostyuk and the Ukrainian is very inconsistent, which is understandable given her tender age.

🇨🇿 Pliskova vs 🇫🇷 Garcia#USOpen Day 3 is going to be 🔥
Garcia has good history playing against Pliskova, winning their last meeting in 2018 to tie up their head-to-head record at three wins each and clashes between the pair tend to be very close, bringing the handicap market into play.
So Garcia +4.5 against Pliskova at 10/13 with 888sport is a solid play here, with the Frenchwoman able to take advantage of the US Open 2020 top seed’s inconsistent form leading up to the tournament.
While Pliskova should win, Garcia can make it a very tight affair.
