The heavyweights are in town, as Ovince Saint Preux makes his debut in the biggest division.
Usually a light-heavyweight, Saint Preux has amassed a record of 24-13 throughout his MMA career – Ben Rothwell is certainly his biggest test, but will it be his hardest?
The fight lands on Wednesday 13th May
VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida, will host the fight
It’s not uncommon to see a light-heavyweight move up a division in combat sports, but the fact that Florida’s Ovince Saint Preux has decided to take on giant Ben Rothwell in his opening bout speaks volumes.
Standing tall at 6’ 4” and weighing over 260 pounds, Wisconsin’s version of “Big Ben” is a force in MMA.
His record stands at 37-12 having suffered three defeats in his last four fights, however, last December he bounced back in Washington to defeat Stefan Struve by TKO to announce his return.
One of Rothwell’s best performances came in 2014 against Alistair Overeem, but now aged 38 there is a suspicion that the giant is winding down.
Rothwell is likely to have at least a 30-pound weight advantage in this fight, but Saint Preuxlooks to have more in the tank at this stage in his career.
This is a bizarre match-up that might just work.
Saint Preux is a strong guy and should be able to negate the gulf in weight to find a victory. Rothwellhas lost by submission twice in his career – Saint Preux may be looking to utilize his rare Von Flue-choke submission once again.
Huge Props to @danawhite for fighting so hard , many don’t understand but a chance to entertain the world would have been epic 💪— Big Ben Rothwell (@RothwellFighter) April 10, 2020
