2:10pm York – Snow Lantern 6/4 with bet365

Snow Lantern is our first pick on the final day of the York Dante festival. This filly was an excellent winner on her only start so far this season, and showed plenty of promise when second on her only run as a two year old last year.

She is impeccably bred, and looks sure to move up the ranks, beginning here with a step into listed company. This comes instead of being thrown in at the deep end in the 1000 Guineas, which was the right decision for this inexperienced horse.

This field is full of unexposed runners, but none of them are more exciting than Snow Lantern, or have the type of improvement we expect her to have.

With that, she is our first tip of the day from York, and we could be seeing a star of the future here.

3:10pm York – Santiago NAP  2/1 with bet365

The Yorkshire Cup is one of the premier early season staying races, and the Aidan O’Brien trained Santiago is our pick here, and also our best bet of the entire card.

The O’Brien runner ran four times last season, with two wins and two defeats. A repeat of any of those four runs would be enough to take this contest, such is the level of his form.

Sir Ron Preistley is the main danger, but has been busy already this season, this will be his third run in just over a month, all over a trip.

Santiago was a little disappointing on seasonal reappearance, but like many from the yard, he should come on a lot for that run.

We fancy him to bounce back, and show us all that he can be a strong player in the staying division this season, just like we saw last season.

3:40pm York – Shawaamekh EW 7/1 with bet365

Shawaamekh was a real eye catcher at Chester last week, and went straight into the notebook as one to follow.

He finished fourth in the race, despite being drawn all the way out in stall 13, with a wide passage throughout. That run can certainly be marked up a considerable amount considering the draw and positioning he had, and he gets to run off the same mark again here.

That mark is 81, his last two wins have come off 79 and 83, so he is on the right kind of mark to strike again. If he can repeat that run from Chester, with a straight track here and some room to race, he looks to have a great each way chance.
