Aston Villa Free Bets 2019/20

Aston Villa, known by their nickname of The Villans, are are Premier League football club based in Birmingham, West Midlands, England. They are a Premier League football club after promotion from the Championship last season, following three years away, but they were actually one of the league’s founding members back in 1992, ten years after they lifted the European Cup.

They may have fallen on hard times, but Villa are among the biggest and most historic clubs in England, and they are led by a very exciting coach in Dean Smith. The former Brentford boss replaced Steve Bruce midway through last season and helped them go up through the playoffs, is a local boy and a fan of the club. In terms of honours, as mentioned, Villa were champions of Europe in 1982, but they’ve also won seven first division titles, seven FA Cups and five League Cups.

Notable former players include Scottish striker Andy Gray, David Platt, Iain Taylor and Brian Little, while key managers in recent times include the late Graham Taylor, David O’Leary and Martin O’Neill. As of 2014, Villa and Tottenham hold the joint record for England internationals, and a huge part of that was arguably the greatest team in modern Villa history, built by O’Neill between 2006 and 2011. The likes of James Milner, John Carew, Ashley Young and Gabriel Agbonlahor all the played a part in taking the club within a whisker of Champions League qualification. That is the bar the current side will eventually be looking to reach.

Aston Villa season predictions 2019/20

With over £150 million spent over the summer, Dean Smith and Aston Villa are making big plans for their return to the Premier League. They don’t have plans of battling relegation for too long; Smith has really overhauled this squad this summer, which suggests he doesn’t have much faith in many of the players who came up with him last season. Though the likes of Jack Grealish, who grew into the captain after staying in the summer despite links with Tottenham, and John McGinn are expected to shine, the likes of Wesley Moraes and Egyptian winger Trezeguet need to hit the ground running after joining from abroad. The Premier League is the toughest league to adjust to, but with no Tammy Abraham, their top scorer with 26 Championship goals, after he returned to Chelsea from his loan spell.

It should be a good season for Aston Villa, but they won’t have it all their own way. Rebuilding themselves as a Premier League team will take time, and they must be patient. Overall, though, there won’t be too many issues and they should survive.
