Anderson Silva the smart bet to beat Michael Bisping at UFC Fight Night LondonPublished February 19, 2016
The leading light and pioneer of British MMA versus perhaps the greatest, albeit ageing, MMA fighter of all time. UFC Fight Night London, taking place on Saturday 27th of February could hardly have wished for a more ideal main event at the O2 Arena. With a terrific undercard in tow, those lucky enough to hold a ticket are in for a real treat.
On the undercard Brad Pickett looks to regain winning ways having lost five of his last seven fights. But a return to Bantamweight actually brought about improvement to his game before top prospect Thomas Almeida found a terrific flying knee to put “one punch” Pickett to sleep. Francisco Rivera is a tough opponent however and the betting favourite here – it’s a tough fight to call but Rivera can get back to winning ways after a submission defeat to John Lineker last time by edging out a decision win over the home fighter.
We also see the return to the Octagon of Tom Breese who fights for the third time in the UFC against Keita Nakemura. Breese looked devastatingly good against Pendred at the UFC Fight Night in Dublin last time out and 8/11 with 888Sport about the KO/TKO victory looks pretty good value for the 24-year old Birmingham man, who fights out of the top class Tristar gym.
Anderson Silva vs Michael Bisping is a truly mouth-watering clash of UFC and Octagon legends. Silva bids to get his career back on track following injury, a failed drugs test and subsequent ban, along with a “no contest” bout with Nick Diaz.
Taking Anderson Silva’s two losses to Weidman out of the equation, he hasn’t won in the UFC since October of 2013, but he looks to be hungry for a return to the top and if operating at anything like his best, Bisping is in for a tough night; for all his aggression, ability and the home crowd. Anderson is a top price of 4/11 to get the win with Boylesports, which will be seen by most as the smart man’s bet.
