UFC Fight Night 88: Over 2.5 Rounds the bet for Thomas Almeida Vs Cody Garbrandt in Las VegasPublished May 27, 2016
Cody Garbrandt (8-0) of Team Alpha Male in California puts his undefeated record on the line against the number 7 ranked bantamweight Thomas Almeida (21-0), a Brazilian from Sao Paulo who easily is one of the hottest prospects in all of MMA.
The betting favourite is Thomas Almeida, top priced at 4/6 with Coral for the win and on the back of his three “performance of the night” bonuses in a row, would you bet against him? This is a showdown between two projected future title contenders meeting at just the right time in both of their prospective careers. Both Garbrandt and Almeida are hungry and dangerous, both aged 24 and both come from respected teams and backgrounds.
“No Love” Garbrandt will not be an easy fight for Almeida, but he is the type of quality prospect that could bring out the very best in the Brazilian. Cody is fast, unpredictable, hugely aggressive and has improved from fight to fight.
Almeida’s striking rate though, is three times higher than the UFC average and his 17 fights in the Legacy promotion is a lot of experience that his opponent here doesn’t have in the cage. Almeida lands 6.82 significant strikes per minute and 50% of the strikes that he throws hit the target, a result of his high level (black belt) Muay Thai training. A product of the famed Chute Boxe system, the Muay Thai striker has some of the best hands and kicks in the division. Garbrandt will be tested to the max and Almeida is taken to get the job done inside the distance. However, the total rounds overs looks a worthy angle.
The feature Fight Pass prelim bout features an equally exciting prospect Aljamain Sterling, as he takes on Bryan Caraway; boyfriend and trainer of women’s bantamweight champion Meisha Tate. Sterling is a huge favourite at 2/7 top price with Coral, but Caraway is a high-level mixed martial artist and will be no pushover. In fact, the 7/2 on offer from bet365 about him winning looks too big.
