Leicester City vs Southampton: Back the Saints on the handicap at the King Power StadiumPublished April 1, 2016
Leicester City will go into this game with the advantage of already knowing the results of Tottenham and Arsenal, their only realistic remaining opposition for the title.
Leicester’s performances of late haven’t always been the most convincing, but they’ve acquired the happy knack of winning whilst not at their best that one tends to associate with title winners.
The Foxes have won four of their last five games 1-0 in taking 13 points from a possible 15 with their defence, so porous earlier in the campaign, now proving key to Leicester’s continued fine form. Indeed, the only goals Leicester have conceded at home in their last seven Premier League games at the King Power Stadium were in the 2-2 draw against WBA at the beginning of March.
Leicester’s mindset going into this game could depend on Tottenham’s result at Liverpool the previous day. If Tottenham win, the pressure on Claudio Ranieri’s team could be a factor but a Spurs defeat will almost certainly lead to a more relaxed approach.
Including this game, three of Leicester’s next four matches are at home, with the other being away to Sunderland. On paper they all look winnable, but teams have wilted under the pressure of expectation at this stage of the season before. Southampton will represent a stern test of Leicester’s title aspirations.
So unpredictable is the Premier League this season that Southampton go into the weekend only four points off a Champions League place themselves, albeit having played a game more than most of their rivals. Three points at the King Power Stadium though and they could have the momentum behind them to put a late run together.
The Saints have a solid defence and in Fraser Forster, one of the best goalkeepers in the top-flight. Going forward they possess enough quality in the likes of Dusan Tadic, Sadio Mane, Graziano Pelle, Shane Long and Charlie Austin to trouble any defence.
Backing Southampton +0.25 on the Asian Handicap looks a decent punt, ensuring a winning bet should the Saints win the game and having half your stake settled as a winning bet and the other half returned if it’s a draw.
