Southampton v Tottenham Betting Predictions | Premier League BettingPublished December 25, 2016
Spurs can move to third with a win at St. Mary’s this week. It’s been an encouraging year for Tottenham while also being strangely disappointing. They’ve got a really good team. It’s full of young and exciting players. They’ve hinted that they’re capable of much more before falling short. That might sound harsh but it’s true. They finished third in a two-horse race.
Then they crashed out of the Champions League at the group stage.
Tumbling out of Europe on such a whimpering note was bizarre. Injuries haven’t been kind but every team has to deal with the absence of key players from time to time. That’s why Mauricio Pochettino tried to strengthen his team over the summer but that hasn’t paid dividends yet.
It was interesting year for Southampton. After another star was poached (manager Ronald Koeman), Claude Puel was appointed and another rebuilding job commenced.
The Saints are in decent form and won’t be afraid of a team who can lack ruthlessness. Solid at the back, they’ll be confident that they can get something against Spurs, having won at White Hart Lane in May. We see this being a tight, low-scoring game. But even if it does turn out to be a goalless draw, it will be an entertaining watch given the philosophy both teams live by.
Southampton predicted XI: Forster, Yoshida, Bertrand, Soares, van Dijk, Clasie, Redmond, Højbjerg, Boufal, Reed, Rodriguez
Spurs predicted XI: Lloris, Vertonghen, Rose, Walker, Dembélé, Wanyama, Eriksen, Alli, Dier, Winks, Kane
