Southampton v Liverpool Betting PreviewPublished November 17, 2016
Liverpool look for their fourth successive Premier League win when they travel to Saint Mary’s on Saturday to play Southampton. Jurgen Klopp has already been to that ground twice and come away with mixed results. His last visit their saw Liverpool lose 3-2 in a league game while the previous fixture was an astonishing 6-1 victory in the League Cup.
Liverpool won their last game by the same scoreline, trouncing Watford at Anfield with an attacking performance that broke records. Claude Puel had to endure a far more uncomfortable result when Southampton lost at Hull. As fired up as his troops will be for the visit of the table-topping Reds, they could be missing a lot of players coming into the game.
The likes of Shane Long, Cedric and Ryan Bertrand could be missing for the hosts while Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana picked up an injury on England duty. Speaking about his battle for fitness, Klopp said: “With Adam we don’t know yet exactly. We haven’t done a scan until now. It will be close. Hopefully not too serious.”
Southampton are a very well-organised side and won’t allow Liverpool as much space as they’re used to. Having only conceded 12 goals in eleven games, they have a better defensive record than Klopp’s side. We expect it to be a tight affair and a real test of Liverpool’s credentials. They couldn’t stop Chelsea but managed to hold City at the Etihad.
