Middlesbrough v Man City Betting Predictions – Back Man City at 10/3 with Skybet
Middlesbrough are perhaps this Premier League season’s biggest disappointment. Defensive solidity from the Championship should have been added to by attacking intent, but it hasn’t been and, at the time of writing, they have scored just 23 goals in the league, fewer than overall top scorer Romelu Lukaku.
Such a poor goalscoring record is a result of no bravery and ambition, with very little quality. Far too often have they been afraid to take a risk and as a result just waited to be beaten. They face the league’s top away goalscorers this weekend in Manchester City, who have already won at the Riverside in the FA Cup this term. That day, they were patient in their build up play and picked their moments to play through the hosts, who made themselves very tough to break down under former boss Aitor Karanka.
Karanka left after the City defeat in March, and while caretaker boss Steve Agnew has attempted to make them more potent in attack, they have scored just four goals under his management and begun to concede many more. As a result they are yet to win since December and are all but certain to be relegated come the end of the season.

In the cup tie, Leroy Sane made right-back Antonio Barragan’s life a misery, as he will doubtless aim to do in this game. Barragan’s propensity to jump into tackles meant Sane could use his pace to get round him, while David Silva and Kevin de Bruyne played through the usually solid Marten de Roon and Adam Clayton easily. Dominating the tempo from the off was the key to victory.
Boro will look to play on the counter attack here, but therefore must allow Adama Traore to start and give him much-needed freedom. Without him, the home side will not turn over the ball quick enough and will again make life too easy for Manchester City.
Betting on this one is tough, because there isn’t much value in it. City coasted to victory in the FA Cup and Boro are in a worse place now, so they should win this one without going above third gear.
