Man City v Liverpool Betting Predictions | Back Draw or Home Win 4/1 with BefairPublished March 16, 2017
This game is so tough to call for a number of reasons, the main one being whether the right Liverpool turn up or not. At Anfield, against the big sides, City included, they are unbeaten, but against smaller teams away, they come unstuck. Will they be able to capture their big game form on the road?
Captain Jordan Henderson continues to miss out through injury, and without him, the Reds don’t have that protection in front of the back four. Adam Lallana and Gini Wijnaldum are best when running forward, but that will leave Emre Can horribly exposed. This game comes down to one battle, Can vs Yaya Toure.
The reason being the two of them will sit deep and be outnumbered when defending, and whoever deals with that better will probably come out on top. Jurgen Klopp’s set up offers Can more protection than Toure gets from Pep Guardiola’s, because Liverpool set up with a midfield three while City play an attacking four in front of the Ivorian and in behind the striker, most likely Sergio Agüero.
But the likes of Hull and Leicester broke through with ease, mainly because Liverpool weren’t as fearful of them on the counter attack. City’s ability to press, win the ball high up the pitch and break with five players, already in behind Liverpool’s midfield, will be really interesting to watch. The more they do this, the more Toure will have the upper hand against Can.
Obviously, Klopp will look to counter it. To do this, he must exploit the fullbacks. Gael Clichy and Bacary Sagna are both ageing and lacking the pace they once had, and Sadio Mane in particular will have a huge role to play, because even though Philippe Coutinho starts on the other flank, he will look to pick up the space in between Toure and the City centre backs.
It is important Liverpool put City under huge pressure when they can, because the defence is not yet at the level Guardiola wants in terms of playing the ball out. Claudio Bravo and John Stones have both made errors this year so there are chances for Liverpool if they can press just as City will. This game promises to be an epic, but we think City will just edge it.
