Chelsea v Man City Betting Predictions | Back a Draw at 17/2 with CoralPublished April 4, 2017
Not many people, if anyone, saw Saturday’s home defeat for Chelsea at the hands of Crystal Palace coming. But it could potentially see a seemingly sewn up title race back on, especially if Manchester City can beat the Blues at Stamford Bridge.
Antonio Conte’s side’s seemingly unassailable 10-point lead at the top was cut to seven by the defeat and Tottenham Hotspur’s win at Burnley. If the same set of results happen with Spurs facing Swansea, the gap will stand at four and suddenly the situation changes.
City undoubtedly have the attacking ability to hurt Chelsea, but as was shown on Sunday in their draw at Arsenal, Pep Guardiola’s men lack the defensive organisation to be considered the best team in England on a consistent basis. For someone with arguably the most tactically intelligent brain in the world, Guardiola loves to take risks, and heading to the Emirates Stadium with no defensive midfielder in place was either going to go well or disastrously.

Luckily, it went well enough for a draw, but operating in the same way at Stamford Bridge could be suicide before kick off. Arsenal were there for the taking, so it made more sense for Guardiola to drop Yaya Toure, the man who plays in the holding role, and go for it. But Chelsea have carved themselves a reputation as a team equally strong in defence and attack this season. With N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic at the base of the midfield able to feed the likes of Eden Hazard, Pedro and Diego Costa on the counter attack, City could be playing catch up from the off, especially with their high line.
Guardiola has played four attacking midfielders behind a striker mostly this season, and provided Toure returns to play the deeper role, City’s attacking third is where the game will be won and lost. Kante and Matic will be wary of Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva, who will attempt to drop back and create space for Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling to cut in from wide and penetrate Chelsea’s back three, just as Palace did.
This looks to be the most exciting clash of the week, and with goals at both ends, we are going for a point each.
