Super Bowl Betting Prediction: New England Patriots -4.5 Points Spread @ 6/4 (2.50) with Paddy Power
One of the biggest annual sporting events in the world takes place on Sunday night, with ‘Super Bowl LI’ in Houston, between AFC champions New England Patriots and the NFC champions Atlanta Falcons.
The New England Patriots have a lot more Super Bowl pedigree than their opponents, having made seven appearances over the years, winning it three times and as recently as 2015, when they beat the Seattle Seahawks 28-24.
The Atlanta Falcons however, appear in only their second ever Super Bowl, having lost that one previous appearance to the Denver Bronco’s back in 1999.
New England Patriots
Looking at the regular season results and performances, a mixture of great defence combined with a varied offense has been key for the Patriots. Their defensive line has conceded a season best of just 15.6 points per game in a 14-2 season record.
The offensive line is rated third in scoring, as legendary quarterback Tom Brady threw 28 touchdown passes, which were complimented by the superb rushing of LeGarrette Blount, who scored a career best 18 touchdowns.
The Falcons season has been dominated by a breathtaking offensive line that topped the scoring chart with a huge average of 33.8 points per game and the most touchdowns of any side in the league, with 61 in their sixteen games, as they finished with an 11-5 record.
It has not been all plain sailing for the Falcons though, only five sides had a worse defensive record, as they conceded over 400 points in total, while they ranked better than just three sides in rushing yards against.
Super Bowl Verdict
Bill Belichick’s New England Patriots team go into the game as strong favourites to win their fourth Super Bowl title, with their strong defensive line able to combat pretty much anything the Atlanta Falcons will throw at them.
For the Falcons, the best form of defence will be in attack, the more they can keep Tom Brady off the field, the greater their chances of success, as I cannot see the Atlanta defense having enough to keep the strong New England passing and rushing games away from the Red Zone consistently enough to outscore them.
Expect a high scoring game, as has been the norm for Falcons games this season, with a potential for a sixty point plus game, a real possibility. The extra quality at the Patriots disposal, especially in defence, should be enough to see them win this NFL betting season at Superbowl 51.
