England betting: Back Harry Kane and co. to ease past AustraliaPublished May 27, 2016
Suggested Free Bet:
After a less than convincing win against Turkey 2-1, especially in terms of defence, England take on Australia at the Stadium of Light. The definite high point of that win was the growing partnership between Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Leicester’s Jamie Vardy, both of whom scored at the Etihad, with the former also missing a penalty.
However, that partnership will not be able to gain further experience in Sunderland as Vardy is marrying his long-time girlfriend on Wednesday and has been given permission to miss the game by manager Roy Hodgson.
Nevertheless, the likes of Wayne Rooney, Marcus Rashford and Daniel Sturridge, all of whom were rested for the Turkey game because of cup final exertions, will be able to stake their claim to partner Kane or one of the other attacking positions.
The last times these two teams met Australia remarkably beat the Three Lions comfortably 1-3 at Upton Park, but that was when the Socceroos had the likes of Harry Kewell and Mark Viduka gracing their attack, ironically it was also Wayne Rooney’s debut for England football team. Few current Australian players are as well known, but they do have a solid midfield straight from the top British divisions with captain Crystal Palace’s Mile Jedinak, Celtic’s Tom Rogic and QPR’s Massimo Luongo.
Melbourne City star Aaron Mooy is attracting a lot of attention from top clubs in England, Scotland, Holland and Belgium, so it will be a stern test for England’s new look midfield.
Australia play a style similar to England’s and not the possession retention game popular among most European national teams, so it will suit Hodgson’s men.
